A Lesser Sort of War- (10 mins)
John Johnson stars as Joseph Howe in the true story of a duel fought in Halifax in 1840. Howe was challenged by the son of the chief justice of Nova Scotia over an accusation of libel for writing an article in defense of the underprivileged. Written by Michael Fox
Skipping School - by Catherine Bussiere
The 13-minute film features four shorts, three of which are animated. Each of the films centers around short stories and poems written by her children, who were home schooled at the time of production. The children are featured in the film along with animated shorts.
The four stories are linked together by an interview with one of the children. He talks about his experiences with home schooling.

SYNOPSIS
Copain de Paris
– A story of a gay hamster’s journey to find love. A Hamster travels to Halifax from overseas to find himself working in a bakery. He comes upon another hamster that is trapped in a cage and cannot get out. What will happen next?
Copain de paix
- Copain the hamster is once again forced to fight for his love. Will he be deported back to France and separated from Henry forever?
Copain de mémoires
– In the third and final chapter, Copain reveals a secret truth about his past, and leaves a moving legacy.
Conscript
– A love story of two aliens torn apart as he is conscripted into the military to invade earth.
We could write a bio about Jacob Owens, but we couldn’t compete with his video biography.

Anyone who has a completed short film on DVD is welcome to bring it to the party and we’ll play ‘em as we get ‘em.
Board Elections
We will hold elections for three board member positions.
All members are eligible to nominate themselves or someone else, and the nomination does not have to be for someone who is a current CBFA member.
If you want to nominate someone outside our membership, please let us know the name and contact information in enough time to ask the potential board member before the election night (it would be helpful if you could propose the idea to them in advance so they have a bit of time to consider the request before we contact them).

The CBFA will be hosting its fifth GFW on June 27th and 28th. For GFW 5, which falls
a few weeks after the One Year Anniversary of our first GFW, the CBFA has decided
to reduce its registration fee for the event.
The GFW is a 2 day filmmaking event where teams of 4 or 5 people write, shoot, edit and screen
a 3-5 minute short film over a 48 hour period.

The Guerilla Film Weekend is a 2 day filmmaking event open to anyone with an
interest in participating in the process of directing, writing, performing, editing
and producing a short film.

Bar is open until 1am: 19+ yrs
$5.00 charge for non-members
Members will vote for their top 4-5 favorite CBFA film created in the first year.
A second round voting for members will determine the winner in each category.
There will also be a special award for a non-CBFA film created by a member and
also for favorite supporter of the CBFA.
Other categories include: Best Actress/Actor, Best Ensemble, Best Film, Best
Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Editing and Best Cinematography.
The winners will not be announced until the night of the awards.

The Cape Breton Filmmakers Association will be presenting a summary of what was accomplished in the first year of the non-profit organization including financials and a five year plan. Membership renewals will be accepted at this time.
